Why Art?
Why was and is art integral to the daily lives of people who hunt animals for their very existence ? Why cave painting, why carved bones? Why decorated pots? Why temple architecture and decor? Why artistic quilting just to stay warm? Why lace? Why dyes and printing? Why sand drawings? Why doodling? Why makeup? Why tattoos? Why design? Why museums? Why jewelry? Why lathe-work? Why glass? Why recipes? Why cake decorating? Why beading? Why calligraphy? Why drama and staging? Why dance? Why song? Why rhythm? Why recordings? Why costume? Why fashion? Why US? Creativity is inseparable from life, even life on the meanest terms. Art IS.
I was charmed when I saw that the Asiatic jasmine had overgrown my studio logo, “The Glen Cliff”, out on our front wall. I was astonished when I realized a green dragonfly was waiting in the foliage, too. A metaphor for life becoming art and art supporting life.

Oh, yeah, you’re the one who has such distinctive mosaic work. I’ll definitely visit your blog, too. Thanks for looking and writing!
I saw your Song of the Canyon Wren on Flickr and noticed a rather familiar frame with a new content. Neat!
Your “why” questions certainly make your point well.
