I often use water imagery in my artwork.  In my mind, water can represent danger, as in the bad dream where water is imminently going to overflow a building or a child.  Water can represent wisdom, as in seeing the upper world reflected back clearly by the surface of the water.  Water can represent depth of knowledge, as in the limitless strange landscape and inhabitants I can see through the surface film.  Water can also represent transformation when the surface breaks up solid reflections into unrecognizable forms and flickers of color.  Water is solvent and is a metaphor for soul cleansing.  Water has its own properties that produce patterns of waves and disturbance that could only be made by water.  I use some or all of these ideas in the art I make that relates to water.

Below is a “Puddle” I made for a friend.  The idea of the “Puddles” series is that we live in a semi-arid region of the continent, and water is usually a welcome sight, even if it is pretend or illusion.  These are little pieces of outdoor art to tide us over until real water comes.
