SNAP! YOU’RE A MODEL.

Moving on to the third panel of “The Feeding of the 5000″ means drawing.  Lots of drawing.  Lots of erasing, too.

On Tuesday, while Roberta cleaned the second panel, Jennie and I went into the hallway with an 8′ x 4′ piece of plywood, a 7′ x 2 ½’ piece of paper, and a projector.  We turned out the lights and traced the projected image of my pastel drawing onto the blank paper.

At one point, we decided we needed more figures on the page, so Jennie sat on the floor to model for me while I stood on a ladder and drew.

Wednesday morning, Roberta continued cleaning and repairing panel two, Nancy joined her in the tiny tweezer work, and Diana and I continued drawing and refining figures on the panel three drawing.  Erase, draw, erase, draw, erase, draw is pretty much the way it went.

Wednesday night, after the Ash Wednesday service, Arthur joined Bob and me in the mosaic room.  Bob prepared tile for the third panel, Arthur finished cleaning panel 2, and I drew, erased, drew, erased, drew, erased.

This morning- O JOY!- Heather Harris, our frame-welder, arrived with our wall hanging system for the six very heavy mosaic panels.

After she left, I looked around for more models for my drawing work.  No one was exempt from consideration!  John became a model, as did Chase, Patricia’s dog.  I continued drawing and erasing until I thought I could stop, and I outlined every figure with black marker.

On Saturday morning, we are ‘taking it public’ when we haul the 8′ x 4′ board with the drawing taped to it for Micah 6 recipients to color while waiting for the pantry.  It might take us two weeks to finish using the colored pencils and burnishing the drawing, depending on how many volunteers we have working.

Bob came after Heather Harris delivered the hanging system and started painting it and planning the installation. He is back at church tonight, putting on a second coat of primer.  Tomorrow, paint the color of the wall.  Saturday, after Micah 6, installation!

We will hang the mosaic panels as they are ready.

Notice the paper patches on this part of the drawing. This is my method for dealing with areas that are too hard to erase. Just past over ‘em and keep drawing.
