Rain and chill were happening outside Micah 6 Food Pantry on Saturday morning, but inside, there were lots of kids on spring break who came to help.

A huge shout-out goes to the 7th and 8th graders of a special program within Sunshine Camps of Austin.  These kids have been working together after school most days of the week for seven months, and their teamwork gleams!  This group chose to work at the food pantry one Saturday morning a month all school year.  Not only were they helping entertain children who came with their parents to the food pantry this morning, but they hauled tables and cleaned as needed.   I interacted with them at the mosaic design coloring table where they all landed at one time or another.  They were bright, focused, listened well, and were extremely respectful of each other and of all of us outside their little group.  What a great program the Sunshine Camps must be to train and nurture such shining examples of humanity.  In middle school.  Boys and girls.  Remarkable!  I wish you had been there with us.

Oh, yes, in case you thought there were not any adults coloring, this proves that there were!

After Micah 6 was cleaned up, we stayed to mount the hanging system for the mosaics on the west wall of the Great Hall.  Here is Bob drilling holes in 90-year-old concrete in order to put in the bolts.  Fourteen sturdy bolts hold the cleat onto the wall.  A similar cleat, pointed downward, will be welded to the back of each frame, making it easy to slip each mosaic panel into place.  We finished today’s job by painting the cleat the same color as the wall.
