On the Road Again
Last Friday night, we took the first of six panels of “The Feeding of the 5000” mosaic ‘out on the road’, as I call it when we take pieces or whole panels outside the church mosaic room.
Yep, that’s me, Lynn Bridge, in the center of the photo, hands waving, lips moving, talking to participants who are interested in starting a mosaic within a new church congregation. Their aim is to start the congregation within Austin’s homeless community. Mosaic is an ideal medium to work in to bring people together in a creative milieu. It is possible to make mosaics from leftovers and scraps, as long as there is a location for it to exist in space.
The top of the mosaic poking up in the background is the first panel of a large mosaic being made from leftover and broken material, so I know a bit about these techniques. I have designed the mosaic panels and I am shepherding their ongoing creation by friends and members of the church.
The secret desire of every mosaic artist is to mosaic the universe, so hearing from people who want advice in choosing a new mosaic project makes my heart leap with joy!
