I Love Public Radio!
Concentrating hard for many hours a day in the studio is made all the more enjoyable by listening to NPR podcasts, such as This American Life, Snap Judgment, RadioLab, On the Media, Medieval Archives, and The Moth. Here’s ONE I particularly enjoyed today.
My first task this morning was to make sure today’s work will dovetail with yesterday’s mosaic. Here’s how I do that:
Trusty self-healing cutting mat, utility knife, and cut-out mesh section from yesterday’s work.
I have laid out the cut section of yesterday’s mosaic onto today’s design.
I put the new mesh section under the zig-zags of yesterday’s work and have filled in the openings with tile tesserae.
Now I tape the new design section, the clear plastic, and the fiberglass mesh section to a sturdy board that can rest on my tilting easel.
Starting at the bottom, I work up from the little shapes that fit into yesterday’s work. Yes, that’s a cat in my chair.

Building upward using various tile hues and tones to make the ridges of the fossil look 3-dimensional.
Section complete at almost 8 p.m. When the work got too high to work comfortably, I simply flipped my board over on the easel.
I’m sorry to say that I did not go outside in the beautiful spring sunshine once today, but listening to public radio podcasts is good, too!
