Interdependence

“Interdependence”, as a serving on a plate, came from the idea that what we eat is dependent on pollination by bees; on organic soil, courtesy of the microbes, beetles, worms, vultures, and many others; on the algae in the oceans; on water.  The theme of this plate leans heavily on imagery of sea life to give it form.  The artist is conveying the necessity of honoring all elements of our world, especially in light of the fact that the continuity of generations depends on the welfare of our planet.

The plate sculpture is made using hand-made fused glass from the artist’s studio, glazed ceramic made by the artist’s mother, Roberta Mitchell, hand-cut stone, and commercially-made beads.  It hangs on a wall using a plate hanger, or rests on a surface on a plate easel.
